Donna Duffy

“I’ve talked to a lot of people who’ve said they watch Knowledge and really like it but just haven’t got around to supporting them yet. I would say, please do support them because it is really a fantastic organization.”

Cultivating Knowledge

You could say that Donna Duffy is one of Knowledge’s biggest fans. Along with being an enthusiastic viewer and longtime Knowledge Partner, she’s willing to show her support when it’s needed most. In 2004, there was talk from the BC government about adding advertising to Knowledge. “I was horrified, so I started a petition and sent it to them,” says Donna. “It turned out that we still have Knowledge today without advertising. I’m very happy about that.”

A retired town planner and avid swimmer and gardener, Donna first started watching Knowledge when she and her husband, Don, moved to Victoria from Prince George 41 years ago – back in the early days of the public broadcaster. These days, her favourite shows include Heartbeat, nature documentaries and listening to Radio City music concerts on Sunday afternoons.

Knowledge has become even more important to Donna since Don passed away. Living alone, she finds the evenings rather long, but there’s always something she can watch – whether it’s stories from BC or around the globe. “Knowledge is full of really good, wholesome content,” she says. “Maybe that’s a strange word to use, but that’s the way I feel about it. Plus the programming is vetted extremely well, so I can trust what’s going to be on.”

To Donna, it makes sense to support something that gives her so much enjoyment. “I’ve talked to a lot of people who’ve said they watch Knowledge and really like it but just haven’t got around to supporting them yet. I would say, please do support them because it is really a fantastic organization.”
