The collection, Storyville Spotlight: Russia’s War on Ukraine goes beyond the news headlines and takes a deeper look at the human impacts of the largest conflict on European soil since the Second World War. Broadcast to audiences in British Columbia September 23-25, the documentaries are now available for streaming free and commercial-free across Canada.

Burnaby, B.C. (June 26, 2025) – Knowledge Network has commissioned a short, animated documentary about the life and career of globally-renowned B.C. soccer legend Christine Sinclair.

Born and raised in Burnaby, Christine has transformed soccer culture across Canada. She represented Canada on national teams for twenty-three years, winning three Olympic medals including gold at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Christine retired from international soccer in 2023, having scored more goals on the international soccer stage than anyone else, ever.

Burnaby, B.C. (April 14, 2025) – Seven B.C. documentaries commissioned by Knowledge Network in 2023/24 will be premiering on the public broadcaster over the course of the next few months. Knowledge Network plays an important role in strengthening B.C.’s domestic production sector through the commissioning of original B.C. documentaries and helping ensure B.C. filmmakers can access their fair share of federally regulated production funds. Sarah Jane will lead on Knowledge Network’s slate of documentary commissions, development projects, and second window pre-licenses. Patrice Ramsay, who currently spear-heads independent production at Knowledge Network, is retiring in May.

Burnaby, B.C. (February 18, 2025) – Knowledge Network is thrilled to announce David Van Poppel as its new Senior Manager of Primetime Programming and Acquisitions. David will lead the strategic sourcing, acquisition, and scheduling of premium Canadian and global content for adult audiences on Knowledge Network’s broadcast channel and streaming service. He steps into this role following the recent retirement of Lawrence Tapley, who played a key role in shaping Knowledge Network’s primetime programming.

With unprecedented access to patients and rarely seen footage from the operating room, Transplant Stories is a four-episode TV series that follows the intimate and dramatic stories behind just a few of the thousands of organ transplants performed each year in Canada.  Transplant Stories will have a Broadcast Premiere starting November 19 (BC only), and stream for free online on www.knowledge.ca/

Burnaby, B.C. (July 10, 2024) – Knowledge Network is pleased to announce the appointment of Mitch Bunda as its new Director of Broadcast Engineering and Information Technology. Mitch will lead on the technical design, management and execution of Knowledge Network’s broadcast television channel and corporate IT infrastructure, as well as provide support for the operation of the Knowledge Network and Knowledge Kids streaming platforms. Mitch steps into the role left by Oliver Eichel, who retired from Knowledge Network in March.

Burnaby, B.C. (June 4, 2024) – New work by Marie Clements and Mina Shum among slate of production and development projects green-lit by Knowledge Network. Reclaim My Skin is a creatively audacious three-part limited series about reclaiming Indigenous women’s history and authority from different nations across Turtle Island. Acclaimed filmmaker Marie Clements (Bones of Crows, The Road Forward) is writing and directing this series, employing her signature blend of music, choreography and stylized documentary techniques.

Funding for this initiative includes $2.25 million from Creative BC, which is a part of the historic $42 million investment made by the Province of B.C. in support of B.C.’s creative sector.

March 1st, 2022 – British Columbia’s trusted viewer-supported public broadcaster, Knowledge Network, is excited to announce that their first ever original animated series Luna, Chip & Inkie: Adventure Rangers Go will premiere on Monday, April 4th, 2022. The new series for children aged 3-6 will be available to stream for free across Canada on the Knowledge Kids app and KnowledgeKids.ca. In British Columbia the show will also be available to broadcast on Knowledge Network.

Vancouver, BC (July 9, 2021) - Search and Rescue: North Shore and Haida Modern, both Knowledge Network Original commissions, took home a collective of four Leo Awards on Tuesday night, excelling in the documentary category. Search and Rescue: North Shore won Best Series, Best Direction and Best Musical Score for a Documentary Series, while Haida Modern was awarded Best Feature Length Documentary.

BURNABY– Knowledge Network announces a multi-year commitment to partner with Indigenous, Black and People of Colour (IBPOC) documentary filmmakers. This new initiative is aligned with the Canada Media Fund (CMF) Pilot Program for Racialized Communities and Indigenous Program. Over the next three years, Knowledge Network will work with six IBPOC production companies to commission six original documentaries, either feature-length, one-hours or half-hours.

Premiering on November 10, 2020 at 9:00 PM PST, the docu-series follows the highly skilled volunteer members of North Shore Rescue (NSR) as they find and rescue people in distress in the rugged mountains, canyons and forests of North Vancouver.
