Global Soccer Icon Christine Sinclair to Be Profiled in Knowledge Network Short Animated Doc
Burnaby, B.C. (June 26, 2025) – Knowledge Network has commissioned a short, animated documentary about the life and career of globally-renowned B.C. soccer legend Christine Sinclair.
Born and raised in Burnaby, Christine has transformed soccer culture across Canada. She represented Canada on national teams for twenty-three years, winning three Olympic medals including gold at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Christine retired from international soccer in 2023, having scored more goals on the international soccer stage than anyone else, ever.
Directed by acclaimed animator Eoin Duffy and produced by Vancouver based Studio Belly Animation Inc., project financing includes a license from Knowledge Network and support from Creative BC enabled by a grant from B.C.'s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.
"Christine Sinclair is an inspiration for women, girls and people all over the world with her incredible achievements on and off the field," said Spencer Chandra Herbert, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. "As Vancouver prepares to host the FIFA World Cup 26™, we're thrilled to shine a spotlight on one of Canada's greatest athletes and role models. Christine Sinclair has inspired us all, whether on the field, at work, or in life to dream bigger, work harder, and make your dreams come true. B.C. couldn't be prouder of her success."
Knowledge Network gave Studio Belly the production greenlight in April following development work earlier in the year.
"Knowledge Network is thrilled to be working with Eoin and team on this exciting project. We look forward to sharing Christine's extraordinary story with audiences in B.C., across Canada and throughout the world," said Michelle van Beusekom, President and CEO of Knowledge Network. "This project would not be possible without the support of Creative BC and we are so grateful to be partnering with them."
"Creative BC is proud to partner with Knowledge Network on this inaugural project featuring local legend Christine Sinclair", said Prem Gill, CEO, Creative BC. "This first-of-its-kind collaboration launches a new chapter in sharing B.C.'s unique stories, told distinctly by domestic filmmakers from B.C."
Vancouver's Studio Belly Animation Inc. is a growing animation studio that writes and produces design centric story driven content. Writer/Director Duffy was shortlisted for an Oscar in 2013 for his acclaimed animated short The Missing Scarf and won a Canadian Screen Award in 2017 for I Am Here.
"Our goal is a film worthy of Christine herself," said Eoin Duffy. "With the support and collaboration of Knowledge Network, we are embracing the narrative power of animation to tell the multifaceted story of a Canadian original."
Christine continues to build her incredible legacy by inspiring and empowering a new generation of soccer players and serving as a champion for gender equity across all walks of life.
"It's been amazing to see this project come to life with the guidance and financial support of Creative BC and Knowledge Network," commented Christine Sinclair. "It's been a lot of fun working with Eoin through the creative process."
The as-yet untitled short, animated documentary will launch in Spring 2026 on Knowledge Network's television and streaming platforms – just in time for the World Cup!
