Fans of BC documentaries on Knowledge will be familiar with the storytelling talents of Vancouver filmmaker Kevin Eastwood. He’s been director and/or producer for numerous feature docs and series, including Emergency Room: Life and Death at VGH, British Columbia: An Untold History and Wildfire.
Kevin notices a difference when making films for Knowledge. “I think they support ideas that might not get uptake from other broadcasters. I also find that Knowledge viewers are engaged in what they watch in a way that you don’t always get with other networks. It’s been really rewarding to have that viewer response.”
He shares their passion for watching programs that stand out from the crowd – and that’s why he’s a longtime Knowledge Partner. “I’m a real documentary buff, and Knowledge has always been an incredible showcase for some of the best documentary programming around. It’s also really important to know British Columbia’s stories. You’re not going to find anyone else who’s as invested in that as BC’s own public broadcaster.”
Kevin has seen donor support grow in the years he’s been involved in Knowledge productions, and he appreciates the opportunities that Partner contributions have provided to local filmmakers, as well as how donations have broadened the depth of original programming that Knowledge has been able to undertake.
“When I think of the individual people who have given their money to Knowledge and how that has wound up directly in the projects I’ve made, I’m just so grateful,” he says. “If you want to see more programming that touches on the issues that Knowledge films do, that have local themes and ideas, then the best way to keep that going is to support Knowledge.”
